Headlined by popular DJ/House Producer 3LAU (pronounced Blau), the show is bound to surge with energy, as his critically acclaimed mash-ups have landed him spots at huge festivals around the country, such as the Electric Zoo Festival, where he played alongside other famous DJ’s such as Tiesto, Steve Aoki, David Guetta, and Pretty Lights. At the mere age of 21, 3LAU is certainly on a track to fame. He is currently preparing his nationwide “3LAU Your Mind Tour”, which is already scheduled to span 20 different states. Moreover, 3LAU is the first notable DJ, or electronic dance musician, to perform at the University of Maryland in recent years. I am certain that he will provide a show to remember. Aside from 3LAU, I also made it my initiative to book a diverse lineup of artists, so that hopefully many students’ musical preferences are represented throughout the show.
Amongst these artists is rapper, XV, who is also bound for great success. Like Chiddy Bang and Mac Miller before him, XV is just about to break the national surface, and he is already a popular name within the rap community. Hailing from Wichita, XV’s unique style and flow have influenced famous artists such as J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, B.o.B, Pusha T, Talib Kweli, and Mac Miller to collaborate with him. His debut album is due out this winter, however he has countless acclaimed mixtapes, which I’d recommend downloading for free online. Additionally, the final opener is a new wave indie-pop trio who go by the name of Carousel. Having been compared to the likes of Foster the People and Death Cab for Cutie, Carousel utilizes synth guitars to create a unique new sound, which is most notable in hit songs such as, “Where Have You Gone” and “Let’s Go Home.” Coming to the Stamp on September 20, the Back-to-School Slam features something for everyone, in addition to some possible surprise giveaways.
Tickets for this event are currently available on umdtickets.com for $8, however there is limited capacity, so grab them before they’re gone. But most importantly, bring your dancing shoes, because the biggest party of the first semester is almost upon us.
